Diphtheria and Diphtheria Immunisation.
For the eighth year in succession, no case of diphtheria was
notified.
The present position with regard to diphtheria immunisation
is summarised in the following figures which have been furnished
by the County Medical Officer.
Of the children resident in the area who were born since 1943,
a total of 1,131 received primary inoculations and 777 received
reinforcing inoculations during 1957.
A total of 13,323 children under the age of fifteen years on
31st December, 1957, have completed a course of immunisation at
some time before that date.
Dysentery.
Thirty-three cases were notified during the year, only two
being admitted to hospital. This figure is a decrease on the fifty
cases which occurred during 1956, and was in conformity with the
figures for the country as a whole.
Food Poisoning.
Nineteen single cases were notified during the year, three
being removed to hospital.
In four cases, the agent was indentified as Salmonella
organisms and in six cases as B. Welchii.
