Ice Cream.
At the end of the year, 152 premises were registered for the
storage and sale of ice-cream, but none for the manufacture of this
commodity. Sixty-two inspections were made and conditions were
found to be satisfactory.
Thirty-four samples were sent for bacteriological and pathological
examination. Two samples graded III and IV respectively,
were unsatisfactory. Upon investigation it was learnt from the
Local Authority in whose district the ice-cream factory is situated,
that the manufacturers had experienced trouble with the plant,
and with the co-operation of the Authority were endeavouring to
effect a speedy remedy. Subsequent samples from this source
indicated that they had been successful.
The following is an analysis of the results obtained during the
past three years :—
No. of Result.

1954 35 31 4 — —
1955 24 23 1 — —
1956 34 20 12 1 1
No pathogenic organisms were found in any of the thirty-four
samples, and with the exception of the two samples mentioned
above, the reports indicated a good standard of cleanliness.
