Action Taken.
Potted meat should contain
100% meat. The
Ministry of Food was
informed, as the product
was imported,
and the foreign
packers were instructed
to provide new
labels with the correct
description.
This sample was taken
before the new labels,
referred to above, had
been affixed and in
view of the Ministry's
explanation, no fur
ther action was taken.
The mode of adulteration
was not determined
in this case. A
warning was issued
however and there was
no recurrence of the
complaint.
Upon investigation it
appeared that an
assistant had inadvertantly
labelled Farinoca
as Tapioca and
the mistake had been
noticed and remedied
within a day or so.
No action taken
beyond a verbal warning.
Reported to the Ministry
of Food for any action
deemed necessary
against foreign manufacturers.
Representations
were made
through the Importers
and the Manufacturers
finally agreed to conform
to the Ministry's
standard.
Slaughterhouses.
The Sanitary Inspectors made fifty-one visits to the nine
slaughterhouses which remain on the register of the Local
Authority. Fourteen slaughtermen's licences were issued under
the Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933. Under present Food Control
Regulations, very little slaughtering of animals is carried out
locally and the following table is self-explanatory ;—
