2. Services Rendered by the Hospital Boards.
There are two hospitals situate in the district; Farnborough
Hospital with 812 beds, which comes under the Bromley Group
Hospital Management Committee, and Orpington Hospital with
983 beds, which is within the Orpington and Sevenoaks Group.
3. Services Rendered by the County Council.
Home Nursing Service.
There are six Home Nurses operating in the Urban District.
Home Nursing is provided on medical certification only, and is
a free service. It is a very valuable service especially at a time
when there are long waiting lists for hospital admission.
Health Visiting.
The County Council employ twelve Health Visitors, two
School Nurses and one Tuberculosis Health Visitor within the
district. Among the duties of the Health Visitors are included
attendances at Welfare Centres, and the follow up and arrangement
of immunisation against diphtheria and vaccination against
smallpox. Their domiciliary visiting and advice has been the
keystone upon which the Maternity and Child Welfare Services
have been successfully built since 1918.
Midwifery (Domiciliary).
Three full-time midwives and three others are employed in
the area. The services of the midwives are engaged direct by the
patient or through the patient's private doctor and the midwives
act either as midwives or maternity nurses.
