Sample | Analysts Report | Action taken |
---|---|---|
Salad Cream (Informal) | Unfit for use. Oil had undergone oxidative rancidity. Adulterated. | This was one bottle of a doubtful batch reported to the department by a Stores Manager. The remainder of the stock was destroyed. |
Salad Mayonnaise (Informal) | Inferior—the same but not such an advanced stage as the Salad Cream mentioned above. | Ditto. |
Table Jelly Crystals. (Informal) | Deficiency in sugar content of 3%. | Full investigation made through the Importers and Manufacturers. The Customs Department had made satisfactory trial tests and the unsatisfactory sample could not be explained Owing to comparatively slight deficiency a warning letter was sent. |
Cream Ices. (Two Informal and One Formal) | Not cream ices—contained not more than 0.3% butter fat. | The wrappers and advertisement board described the commodities as " Cream " Ice. Representations were made to the Ministry of Food and it was hoped that a provision would be inserted in the new Ice Cream jStandards Order prohibiting the use of the description " Cream Ice" unless the products contained an appreciable amount of butter fat. Provision has not been made however and as the law stands to-day it is unlikely that legal action would succeed. |
Beef Sausages (Formal) | Adulterated. Deficiency of 16% in minimum amount of meat required. | First offence. Strict warning given. |
Pork Sausages (Formal) | Adulterated. Deficiency of 12% in minimum amount of meat required. | Ditto. |
