ERADICATION OF BED BUGS.
The following number of houses were found to be infested
with bed bugs during the year:—
Council houses 2
Other houses 10
COUNCIL HOUSES.—Strict supervision is exercised with
regard to possible infestations, and advice given where necessary.
In all cases where infestation is found, the necessary
action is taken by the Council.
OTHER HOUSES.—When cases of infestation are discovered,
the occupiers of the premises are given advice.
Zaldecide insecticide is used in connection with the disinfestation
of premises.
The Rodent Operative appointed last year left the Council's
service during 1945, and for the remainder of the year the work
of disinfestation was carried out by part-time work of one of
the existing Public Health Staff.
During the year 796 inspections of premises suspected to be
infested with rats were carried out.
The Council undertakes the work of disinfestation of private
premises on the application of the owner or occupier, and during
the year 66 cases were dealt with.
Disinfestations of premises under the Council's control were
also carried out.
All water courses within the District received careful
supervision, and in one case it was necessary to take action in
connection with pollution by oil.
