WATER SUPPLY.
The mains of the Metropolitan Water Board supply the
greater portion of the District.
In some outlying parts however, water is obtained from
deep wells, and from rain water collected from the roofs of
houses and stored in tanks.
During the year 47 bacteriological and 11 chemical
analyses of the water were carried out.
PUBLIC CLEANSING.
The collection of house refuse throughout the District is
carried out by direct labour.
Owing to shortage of labour and transport the removal
of refuse during the year has presented considerable difficulty,
but although collections have not in some areas been
carried out weekly, the service throughout the District has
been maintained.
CESSPOOL EMPTYING.
No special action was taken with respect to the emptying
of cesspools during the year.
The Council undertakes the emptying of private cesspools
as circumstances permit,
