During the week preceding "Eat Week" inaugurated by
the Ministry of Agriculture, posters were displayed throughout
my district calling attention to the week and asking for the
co-operation of owners and occupiers with a view to the
extermination of any infestations. A book on rat extermination,
published by the Ministry of Agriculture, was also supplied
upon request. Certain Chemists shops in the district made a
special window display of poisons.
Common Lodging Houses.—Four visits have been paid to
the one common lodging house in my district, and the premises
were conducted in a satisfactory manner.
Fruit Pickers Huts.—During the season visits were paid
to the huts in use in my district, and the requirements of the
Bye-laws were carried out.
Shops Acts.—Ninety-six visits were paid during the year to
the shops in my district.. It was necessary to warn shopkeepers
regarding infringements of the closing hours and the hours of
employment of young persons.
