Disposal.—Disposal of the refuse from the whole of the
district in the old gravel pit at Green-Street-Green on the
Bradford System lias continued to work satisfactorily, but it is
unfortunate to have to record that the pit is rapidly nearing its
life for disposal purposes, and the acquisition of land suitable
for a new dump is of vital concern.
Prior to the formation of the Urban District there was on
proper or efficient means adopted for the disposal of the refuse,
the same being deposited by the Contractor in disused pits or
on agricultural land without treatment or covering of any kind.
Complaints regarding insanitary tips and nuisances from flies
and rats in the vicinity thereof were then frequent.
From the 1st January to the 31st December, 1937, the total
number of loads disposed of was approximately 3,897.
