There are now 44 children attending this school. There are 6classes; two classes
for the junior children are held at the old Knotts Green Nursery in the grounds of
Leyton Green School. Plans are afoot for building two classrooms in the grounds of
Leabridge Road school and it will be much more satisfactory to have all the school
children on the same site.
Each term there is an open evening for the parents and between 50% and 60% of the
parents of the children attend, in many cases father as well as mother. All the school
staff and the staff of the Child Guidance Clinic attend this open evening and the
school medical officer as well. The school medical officer finds this extremely useful
and discusses any medical problems with the parents at the open evening. It is very
difficult to get parents to attend at the school during the day and the evening meeting
provides an opportunity not to be missed, especially if the father as well as the
mother can be seen.
During the year 4 children were found to be in an unsatisfactory general condition
and 2 were referred for four weeks convalescent treatment from which they greatly
benefited. General tonics were provided for the others who refused the offer to send
the children away.
The new entrants to the school are medically examined if this has not been
carried out before admission. No defect of importance was detected in any of them,
although it is obvious when examining these children how tense and anxious, and in some
cases depressed, they are. It appears impossible to see more than 5 or 6 children in
a morning, the children require so much reassurance about everything that one does.
TUBERCULOSIS IN SCHOOL CHILDREN
There was no new case of tuberculosis in school children reported in 1964.
