CENTRAL SYRINGE STERILIZING UNIT
The Central Syringe Sterilizing Unit sterilized 30,080 syringes during the year.
This is an average of 578 syringes per week.
SECTION 27 - AMBULANCE SERVICE
This section of the National Health Service Act wasthe responsibility of the County
Council and was administered centrally. Leyton and Walthamstow combined use a station
at James Lane, Leytonstone, E.ll. I am indebted to the County Medical officer of Health
for supplying the following statistics relating to the operation of the County Ambulance
Service in the area of Whipps Cross during the year:-
Ambulance vehicles 12 Stretcher cases 8,695
Dual purpose vehicles 8 Other cases 88,689
Total cases conveyed 97,384
Total mileage 291,661
Total emergency cases 10,825
SECTION 28 - PREVENTION OF ILLNESS AND AFTER CARE
Foot Clinic
The staff situation still remains unsatisfactory and few sessional workers stay
for long. The average strength during the year has been 55 sessions out of a permissable
88 per week.
As this will be the last Annual Report for the Leyton Area, I would like to place
on record and to draw the attention of the Area Committee to the valuable service Mr.
R.Sadowski has given. He has for 12 years done uninterrupted'sessional work, in the
earlier period at clinics, but for the last few years mainly domiciliary. In fact it is
Mr.Sadowski who has been responsible for keeping this valuable service at its level of
seven sessions per week.
Domiciliary chiropody is exclusively for the aged and for house bound invalids who
would otherwise have to suffer from foot disorders which they could not alleviate themselves.
1,463 treatments were given to 484 patients in 1964.
One visit is made each week to one of the two old people's homes in the area.
The attendances at the three clinics have been high. The average attendance of
patients per chiropodist per session throughout the Area was 7.3 out of a possible 8.
When inclement weather and the age of the majority of patients is considered, this is
a high rate of attendance.
ATTENDANCES AND TREATMENTS AT CLINICS
During the yearatotal of 3,461 patients attended the foot clinics, these included
612 new patients. A total of 16,824 treatments were given.
It was possible to discharge 107 adults and 276 children.
