engage in a struggle for cases which must inevitably be unequal and would not
be in the best interests of the service. Nevertheless I should like to express
my regret that this work has been lost—not only to me personally, but to the
School and Welfare Health Service which I consider has advantages in
dealing with it.

PREVENTION OF ILLNESS, CARE AND AFTER-CARE
In my Annual Report for 1953 I submitted a brief historical outline of the treatment facilities available since the Foot Clinic at High Road Baths —one of the first municipal foot clinics in the country—was established in 1936, and some idea of the progressive increase in annual attendances may be gained from these figures:—
