NURSERIES AND CHILD MINDERS REGULATION ACT, 1948.
At the end of the year one child minder was registered as a
child minder, and is allowed to take up to four children. Frequent
visits have been made by the health visitor, and the conditions
are reported to be satisfactory.
During the year an application for registration was received
from an applicant who desired to undertake the care of 12 children
between the ages of three and five years.
After considering a detailed report on the premises and
facilities, the Health Area Sub-committee refused to register as a
child minder on the grounds that the presence of several elderly
patients in the premises would prejudice the appropriate care of the
children.
Several enquiries have been made by persons desiring to
register for this purpose ; but, when the stringent regulations are
explained, and especially when they realise that it is not likely to be
a profit-making concern, the applications are not proceeded with.
