Local Authorities have power, however, to make a charge for
replacement of dentures necessitated by lack of care (Circular 100/48
of 18th June, 1948, para. 5).
It is among the young children, when seen with their mothers,
that the scope for dental propaganda is so great, and I am sure large
numbers of mothers could be persuaded to attend some three or
four times a year for inspection and treatment, for a prophylactic
cleaning, or for a talk on dental care if only we had the staff to deal
with them.
During part of the year Miss Watts (Oral Hygienist) has given
short talks (by arrangement with the health visitors) to the expectant
and nursing mothers attending the Maternity and Child Welfare
Clinics, thus bringing the matter of dental hygiene to their attention
and giving them the opportunity to ask questions.
It has been possible to inspect and treat all children who were
referred to the dental clinics by the matrons of the day nurseries
in the Borough.
