Contagious Diseases of Animals Acts and Orders.
Attention has been given to the various orders issued during
the year; and no case of contagious disease has occurred within the
Borough.
Inspections were carried out at the railway sidings where
horses are derailed for slaughter at neighbouring slaughterhouses;
and the conditions found were satisfactory. Water and food are
available for the animals, and protection from the weather is adequate.
Food and Drugs Act, 1938.
The number of samples taken for analysis under the provisions
of this Act from 1st January to the 31st December was 240.
The range of samples taken covered a wide field; and, as far
as possible, every effort was made to discover any possible offence
under the Act or Ministry Regulations and Orders.
It is pleasing to be able to report that the results of the analyses
were generally satisfactory, there being only five cases in which
the reports were adverse.

Increasing care is being exercised by manufacturers, producers and retailers to comply with the required standards.
