These figures show that there were 25 cases of active tuberculosis
disclosed by the Survey, giving a ratio of 2.64 per 1,000 examinations.
This compares favourably with the national figure for Mass
Radiography, which is between 3 and 4 (nearer 4) per 1,000. The
incidence was greater in the female than the male examinees, the
respective ratios being 3.07 and 2.24 per 1,000. This is a usual
finding as far as the area covered by this Unit is concerned.
All necessary action has been taken in respect of cases, both
tuberculous and non-tuberculous, requiring further medical
attention.
I should like to take this opportunity of conveying my appreciation
of the co-operation of the Director of the Unit (Dr. Lawless)
and his staff, and of the valuable administrative work carried out
by the Chief Clerk of the Health Department (Mr. G. F. Leserve).
