(c) The assumption that provision of residential accommodation
would attract suitable applicants.
(d) Ministry of Health Circulars 96 and 98 of May, 1946,
in which the Minister recommended the provision of housing
accommodation for midwives and health visitors by local
Housing Authorities.
(e) The recommendation contained in the " Rushcliffe
Report " that employing authorities should in suitable areas
and circumstances establish district hostels.
Authority has since been given for the use of the dwelling
house to provide furnished residential accommodation, and all the
structural and decorative work has been completed.
Recent advertisements offering accommodation have attracted
applicants, but experience in the interviewing of these applicants
has shown that their chief purpose in applying for the posts was
to obtain accommodation for themselves and for relatives or
dependants. The off er of accommodation does not seem to attract
unmarried applicants. As a result of such experience I suggest
that consideration be given to the question as to whether it is
justifiable to furnish and equip valuable housing accommodation
which could be used otherwise to better purpose.
