Cleanliness of Food Premises.
Efforts have been continued throughout the year in an
endeavour to bring all food premises up to a high standard of
suitability and cleanliness. During the visits by the Sanitary
Inspectors particular attention has been paid along the lines of
educating the employer and his staff in the importance of food
hygiene. Informal talks and advice have been given by the
Inspectors wherever possible, and notices regarding cleanliness
have been displayed at the premises. The importance of the Clean
Food Campaign has been emphasised. The Council have sought
permission to adopt the Model Byelaws of the Ministry of Food
regarding the Handling, Wrapping and Delivery of Food and Sale
of Food in the Open Air, and meetings were being arranged with
the local Chamber of Commerce, the Bakers Arms Traders' Association
and other local organisations. Many improvements were
effected in food premises and special attention has been given to
cafes, canteens and school kitchens. Much progress has been made,
and greater precautions and care are being exercised by the staffs
generally.
