PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY DEFECTIVE CHILDREN.
Mentally Defective Children.
Statutory Medical Examinations.
During the year, some 53 children were referred for statutory
medical examination.
As the result of examination these 53 children were classified
as follows :—
Idiots 0
Imbeciles 1
On attaining 16 years of age—for supervision under
the M.D. (Notification of Children) Regulations 1
Certified to Local Education Authority as feebleminded

Remained under certificate 1
Certificate withdrawn 2
Dull and backward 18
Borderline cases—to be re-assessed in six months 9
Cases under certifying age 1
Behaviour problems:—

The educational problems associated with war conditions
have greatly increased the number of children referred for examination
owing to failure in school work. This problem of the slightly
dull child, who is working far below his actual capacity, can best
be solved by special classes in the junior school, where a teacher
specially interested could have a small class and have time to teach
