WAR-TIME DAY NURSERIES.
In accordance with the provisions contained in Ministry of
Health Circular 2388, and Circular 1553 of the Board of Education,
issued in May 1941, two War-time Day Nurseries were established
in the Borough.
The Ministry of Labour refused the first application by this
Authority to provide War-time Day Nurseries; and after prolonged
negotiations with the Government Departments concerned the first
of the two Nurseries (Knotts Green) was opened by the Mayor on
the 13th July, 1942.
The second Nursery (Ellingham Road) was opened by the
Mayor on the 10th August, 1942.
Each Nursery accommodates 50 children,
