REPORT BY THE AUTHORITY'S SENIOR DENTAL
OFFICER (A. E. HALL, L.D.S.)
In reviewing the work of the School Dental Service in the
Borough of Leyton during the year 1939 we are faced with two
distinct periods ; the one consisting of that portion of the year
prior to the outbreak of hostilities ; and the second that since
the war commenced, when a complete re-arrangement of our
existing facilities became necessary.
The first part of the year was one of unrestricted progress.
The schools in the Borough were divided into three groups, and one
group was allotted to each Dental Officer. Inspection and treatment
were carried out in these schools, commencing with those
schools in which the longer interval had elapsed since the last
inspection.
At the commencement of the war, work was well up to date
in the elementary schools of the Borough, and had we been free to
continue, all the schools would have been inspected and treated
during 1939. As in some schools a period of over twelve months
had already elapsed since the last inspection, it would not have
been possible to say that each school was receiving annual reinspection
and treatment until some date in 1910.
Pre-War Period.
Elementary Schools.
Of the twenty elementary schools in the Borough, the following
eleven had been inspected before they closed for the Summer
Holiday
Norlington, Ruckholt, Trumpington, Davies Lane, Newport,
Mayville, Sybourn, Knotts' Green, Lea Bridge, St. Joseph's and
Church Road.

Appended is a brief analysis of the amount of dental treatment carried out within the Borough for the elementary school children during the normal period of the year, i.e., from January to end of August, 1939.
