The Education Authority endorsed that suggestion, and the
"Regulations for the Exclusion of Children from School" were
modified accordingly in respect of scarlet fever. Since that time
scarlet fever contacts have been excluded for only a week, irrespective
of whether the patient has been isolated in hospital or at home;
whereas previously contacts of home-treated cases were excluded
for six weeks.
Over two years have now elapsed since the modified procedure
was adopted, and in the following table will be found a statistical
comparative analysis of the incidence of scarlet fever among school
contacts during the two-year periods before and since the modification
of the regulations.
