It will be seen that, of the 11,367 children inspected, only 3,415
(30 per cent.) had perfectly sound sets of teeth, while 7,952 (70
per cent.) were found to require treatment.
Of the 7,952 who were offered treatment, 4,212 accepted, the
percentage of acceptance of treatment being 53 per cent. The
figures show that in individual schools there is a considerable difference
in the response of parents to the offers of skilled dental
treatment on behalf of their children. For instance, in Canterbury
Road School the percentage of acceptances was as high as 64.2
per cent., whereas in Davies Lane School it was as low as 37.3
per cent.
In 1,208 cases (15 per cent.) the parents actually refused
treatment, while in 2,532 cases (32 per cent.) the acceptance of
treatment papers were not returned by the parents.
