DEATHS.
1,075 deaths of Leyton residents were registered during the
year—489 males and 586 females.
To these must be added 127 males and 88 females, being
deaths (transferable) received from the Registrar-General.
The death-rate for 1921 was 10'04 per 1,000 of the population.
ZYMOTIC DEATH-RATE.
The deaths which occurred during the year from the seven
principal Zymotic diseases were as follows:—Measles, 3;
Scarlet Fever, 5; Diphtheria, 27; Whooping Cough, 6; Enteric
Fever, 1; Diarrhoea and Enteritis, 39.
The Zymotic death-rate for 1921 was .63 per 1,000 of the
population.
INFANTILE DEATH-RATE.
The infantile mortality rate, i.e., the number of deaths of
children under one year of age, per 1,000 births was 67.94, there
being 182 deaths, 171 legitimate and 8 illegitimate.
NOTIFICATION OF BIRTHS (EXTENSION) ACT, 1915.
This Act took effect on September 1st, 1915. Under its terms
2,359 births were notified during the year 1921—1,231 from
medical practitioners, 1,096 from midwives, and 32 from relatives.
The health visitors visited 2,624 newly-born infants and
paid 19,642 re-visits.
MATERNITY AND INFANT WELFARE WORK.
The constitution of the Committee appointed for the conduct
of this work necessarily varies each year. The names of the
ladies and gentlemen appointed for the year under review are as
follows :—
Cairman: Councillor Clare.
Members: Councillors Allanson, A. G. Cochrane, Courtney,
Dolder, Griggs, Hubbard, Marlow, Mrs. Marshall,
Mawer, Pennmgton, and Vernon.
