OPHTHALMIC SURGEON'S REPORT ON THE
WORK OF THE EYE CLINIC.
The selection of new cases for Ophthalmic examination is
made from:—
(1) Children found with defective vision by the School
Medical Officer at the Schools.
(2) Children suffering from obvious defects sent to the
School Clinic by the teachers.
1,063 cases were examined at the Clinic. Of these the defects
were as follows:—
*Myopia 132
Myopic astigmatism 75
Hypermetropia 161
Hypermetropic astigmatism 153
Mixed astigmatism 49
Hypermetropia with squint 19
Myopia with squint 8
Squint only 12
Odd eyes 9
Various diseases 57
No defect 105
Re-inspected 283
Total 1,063
* 8 of these cases were excluded for varying periods.
VARIOUS DISEASES.
57 disease cases were seen. These included Iritis, Keratitis,
Cataract, Lachrymal Duct obstructed, Phlyctenular Ophthalmia,
Wound of Eye, Blepharitis, Optic Atrophy, Retinitis, Artificial
Eye, Corneal Ulcers, Corneal Opacity, Conjunctivitis, and Ciliary
Spasm.
Myopia and Squint cases requiring supervision are seen at
intervals of three to nine months.
