Samples of infants' clothing- are also on view, and instruction
given as to how to make the various garments.
In addition to these Clinics, one for expectant mothers, the
Ante-Natal Clinic, is held at the People's Hall.
A Dental Clinic for mothers is held once a week at the Town
Hall, at which expectant and nursing mothers requiring dental
treatment are advised to attend.
The details of the work of this Clinic will be found in the
Dentist's report to the Education Committee.
A brief account of each Clinic is appended.
TOWN HALL INFANT WELFARE CLINIC.
This, the first to be established, was started in February,
1917. It is held every Friday.
Dr. Sloan-Chesser attends, and is assisted by Nurse Holland
and Nurse Clipstone, in addition to the following voluntary
helpers:—Miss Lister, Mrs. Muir, Mrs. Hawkey, Mrs. Clayton,
Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Atkins, Mrs. Harvey, Mrs. Bowra, Mrs. Lebbon
and Mrs. Wagstaffe.
Miss Lister, who is also a co-opted member of the Infant
Welfare Committee and a member of the Leyton Health Society,
is especially deserving of mention. She has been a most enthusiastic
supporter of the work ever since its inception, and has
rendered most valuable aid in many directions. Mrs. Muir also
takes a great interest in the work, and spends a great deal of time
in instructing the mothers in the making of suitable garments
for their children. Mrs. Hawkey and Mrs. Clayton perform useful
work in assisting to keep records. Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Atkins
assist in dispensing the Glaxo, Virol, etc. And Mrs. Harvey, Mrs.
Bowra, and Mrs. Lebbon entertain the mothers and supply them
with tea and biscuits, a charge of one ptnnv per head being made
for these refreshments.
During the year 3,361 attendances have been recorded, 503 of
which were first attendances.
