MENTALLY DEFECTIVE, BLIND AND DEAF CHILDREN.
Three blind children are maintained at the East London Home
and School for Blind Children at Clapton, and one attended the
Morning Lane Day Centre, Hackney, but in July was transferred
to Elm Court Residential School, West Norwood. One blind
and mentally defective child is resident in the Hastings and St.
Leonard's Home.
One mentally defective child is in Hopwell Hall, Derbyshire,
two in Littleton House School, Cambridge, three girls in Royal
Eastern Counties Institution, Colchester, and ten boys and four
girls attend the Walthamstow Day Centre. Mine children attend the
Water Lane Deaf and Dumb Centre, West Ham, three attend
a similar centre at Gainsborough Road, Walthamstow, and one
the Royal Institution, Edgbaston.
Epileptic Children.—One girl is resident at Chalfont St.
Peters, three at Much Hadham, Hertfordshire, one at the
Epileptic Colony, Lingfield, and one at the Royal Eastern
Counties Institution, Colchesiter.
PROCEDURE IN VERMINOUS CASES AND OTHER
CONDITIONS DUE TO NEGLECT.
When children are found to be verminous they are sent to the
Inspection Clinic and then excluded from School by the School
Medical Officer. After the lapse of several weeks' exclusion from
School, during which time they have been instructed and
cautioned, the parents are summoned to attend before the various
School Attendance Sub-Committees.
The parents of 145 children were thus dealt with, and prosecutions
for non-attendance at School instituted in 44 instances,
as a result of which fines and costs amounting to ,£11 18s. were
inflicted.

Meals have been provided during the year at two of the
School Cooking Centres—Mayville Road and Capworth Street
