The birth-rate, which it will thus be seen has been diminishing
year by year, is 1.0 per 1,000 of the population lower than last
year. The birth-rate throughout England and Wales in 1914 is
0'3 per 1,000 below the rate in 1913, and is lower than the rate
in any other year on record.
The marriage-rate in England and Wales in 1914 was 15.9
persons married per 1,000 of the population. This is an increase
of 0'6 per 1,000 upon the average in the ten years 1904-1913.
The number of illegitimate births was 63, of which 31 were
males and 32 females.
Our illegitimate birth-rate is therefore 48 per 1,000 of the
population.
DEATHS.
As in last year's returns, the transferable deaths, that is those
of residents of Leyton who have died in other districts, are
included in the present report.
The inhabitants of Leyton who died during the year 1914
numbered 1,36.3. Of these 679 were males and 684 females.
Our death-rate is thus, approximately, 10.4 per 1,000 of the
population.
In 1913 the death-rate was 10.3 per 1,000 of the population.
The death-rate tor England and Wales in 1914 was 14.0; for
the 97 Great Towns, 14.7; and for London, 14'4.
