101
Condition of Teeth of Above Group of Children.
Total Number of decayed teeth 424
Number savable 329
Number unsavable 95
In this school the work done included:—
Fillings 159
Extractions 51
Dressings 11
This represents an average of about 3 fillings and 1 extraction
to each child.
The number of children who completed their treatment and
whose mouths are now in a healthy condition is 50.
Very little trouble was experienced in getting the children to
attend for their appointments and in most cases more than one
attendance was necessary owing to the amount of work which had
to be performed. Some of the children came quite eagerly and
looked upon their visit to the clinic as an interesting event in
their lives.
The clinic was opened in September but the early part of
the month was occupied in selecting appliances and instituting a
working scheme; inspection and treatment were not begun until
the end of the month.
The following tables give an analysis of the work performed
to the end of the year.
There is a tendency on the part of the parents to look upon
the clinic as a tooth-pulling institution. Every opportunity is
taken to explain that tooth extraction is an incidental part of the
scheme and that the main object is to obtain a clean and healthy
mouth.
