It was mentioned also that application had been made to the
Local Government Board for permission to add "Rag and Bone
Stores" to the list, and in October I further recommended the
Council to apply for permission to include the trade of "Fish Frier."
The Council adopted my recommendation.
SANITARY CONVENIENCES.
The underground sanitary convenience at Leytonstone, alluded
to in last year's Report as being under construction, was completed
and opened on 16th January. We have now two of these conveniences
in the district. Each one has a w.c. reserved without
payment for the use of women.
In last year's Report the need for more of these conveniences was
pointed out, and as the result the Surveyor has been instructed to
report as to the practicability of building another in the Leytonstone
Road, near the end of Cann Hall Road, or failing to obtain a site
there, at Harrow Green. The question of providing one in the Lea
Bridge Road at the junction of this road with Markhouse Road,
Walthamstow, is also being entertained.
WATER SUPPLY OF THE DISTRICT.
As stated in former Reports, this is obtained from the Metropolitan
Water Board. It is plentiful and of satisfactory quality.
The prolonged drought of the past summer, during the whole of
which time we experienced no shortage of supply, is a severe test of
the Board's capacity to meet our requirements even under exceptional
circumstances.
