NOTES ON SANITARY WORK, AND
MATTERS INCIDENTAL THERETO.
SEWERAGE AND DRAINAGE.
In the following roads during the year 1911 the Sewers have
been wholly or partly reconstructed :—
Hainault Road.
Vicarage Road. Old 12 in. pipes taken up for a distance of
200 yards and replaced by 9 in. pipes.
Numerous house drains have been relaid, for particulars of
which see Sanitary Inspector's Report.
SEWAGE DISPOSAL.
The sewage works are under the superintendence of the
Engineer and Surveyor, and during the year he has been making
experiments with powders other than Hanson's, which has been
used for many years. The experiments have been conducted with
a view to economy, as Hanson's powder costs considerably more
than that of other manufacturers.
The tests so far go to prove the superiority of sulphurous
powders; but Hanson's works having closed down, considerable
difficulty has been occasioned through inability to obtain a
regular supply of similar powder elsewhere.
