In view of the fact that outbreaks of Small-pox in the districts
adjacent to the Metropolis are not unlikely to synchronise with
an epidemic in London, and bearing in mind the rapidity with which
Small-pox assumes serious proportions, it seems imperative that
the assistance the Board will be justified in affording in extrametropolitan
authorities must be limited to the reception of an
intermittent case or two. It is hoped that this, pending immediate
local provision for further cases, will be found useful.
I am therefore to acquaint you, in common with other
authorities outside the Metropcl: from whose districts it has
been conditionally agreed to receive cases, that the facilities which
this Board may be relied upon to give must be regarded as strictly
limited to admitting a sporadic case or two and that the Board
will not undertake to receive any which may occur subsequently.
I shall be glad if you will kindly acknowledge the receipt
of this letter.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
(sgd.) T. DUNCOMBE MANN,
Clerk to the Board.
The Clerk,
Leyton Urban District Council.
