The latrines of the schools in the District were cleansed and
whitewashed throughout, according to custom, during the Easter
vacation, and at the same time the drains were overhauled and
flushed under the superintendence of the Surveyor to the District.
As the result of reports from me recommending more frequent
cleansing of the class-rooms, &c., including desks and the tops of
cupboards, &c., and the necessity for more frequent window
cleaning, arrangements have been made by the appointment of
25 women scrubbers for the cleansing to be carried out six times
during the year instead of only four times, as has hitherto been
the practice.
The windows also are now cleaned four instead of three times
yearly.
