Although the teachers took strong exception to the suggestion
contained in last year's report that their personal influence might
affect the number of objectors, I cannot refrain from pointing out
that the two schools which furnished the highest numbers of this
class head the list again this year, viz., Newport Road and Goodall
Road.
With the exception of these two schools the number of those
objecting to medical examination is exceedingly few.
Throughout the year, as formerly, notices have been sent to
the parents advising them of the date and time their children were
to be inspected and inviting their attendance. The percentages of
children in each class who were attended by their parents works
out as follows :—" Entrants," 85 per cent.; " Leavers," 66 per
cent.; and those between 7 and 8 years of age, 81-5 per cent.
As in former years, all the examinations have taken place at
the schools, and no serious interference with school work has been
reported.
The methods adopted have been similar to those outlined in
previous reports; any deviation from these is recorded under its
appropriate heading.
