FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ACT, 1901.
Under the above Act, 13 visits have been made to Factories
and 300 to Workshops in the district. 222 nuisances resulting from
uncleanliness, overcrowding and other defects have been remedied.
At the end of the year the Workshops on the Register numbered
240, including Laundries and Bakehouses, as compared with 136
in the year 1908.
OUTWORKERS.
676 inspections of the homes of Outworkers have been made,
with a view to ascertaining the conditions under which the work
is carried on. In 223 instances notices were served to remedy
unwholesome conditions. In addition to the above, 188 addresses
of outworkers were received, but on calling we found that the work
had been given up or the occupiers removed.
During the year four cases of infectious disease have occurred
in four homes where the work was being done. The work was in
each instance removed and disinfected, and the usual notice served
under the Act to prevent any further work being sent to the house
until all risk of infection was over.
DINING ROOMS.
During the year the Dining Rooms in the district were visited
periodically in order to see that the premises and the food supplied
therein were in a satisfactory condition; where necessary notices
were served to remedy insanitary conditions.
