INQUESTS.
The following verdicts were returned in Inquests held on
inhabitants of the district during the year:—
Natural Causes 44
Accidents 16
Suicide 5
Want of proper attention at birth 3
Overlaying of Infants 2
Drowning 4
Tetanus from Accidental Wounds 1
Chronic Alcoholism 1
Sunstroke 1
Murder (Strangulation of Newly Born Infant) 1
As to the methods adopted by the five suicides to terminate
life, one attained this end by cutting his throat, one by being run
over by a railway train, one by poisoning by cresoline, and two by
poisoning by rat poison. In one of the last mentioned cases a
verdict of felo-de-se was recorded.
