I may take this opportunity of giving a word of warning against the
habit that is becoming so popular of obtaining milk " from one cow,"
or, as it is sometimes called, " nursery milk," for the use of infants.
Although this milk may frequently be of the best, yet it too often
happens that it is obtained from one special cow, which is confined
in a shed in a populous neighbourhood, under conditions which preeminently
favour tuberculosis, and is usually fed on dry food, and
deprived of the fresh air and pasturage enjoyed by cows in the country.
