These figures total 12,587 (6,117 males, 6,470 females) an increase of
626 compared with the 1962 figures.
The figures for 1962 were 11,961; for 1960—9,478; for 1958 8,518;
for 1956—8,831 ; and for 1954—5,687.
175 persons were referred for further investigation but Dr. Lawless
states that it is likely that the majority of these will turn out to be of
little significance.
