Boroughs appeared on the way towards reality. Should this finally
transpire there is of course a tremendous amount of ground work to
be done in the field of Public Health alone so that the eventual new
Borough may commence its life in terms of smoothness and efficiency.
Housing.
The number of houses provided during the year showed a drop
both from Local Authority and other sources. Inevitably as land becomes
even scarcer, housing provision on a large scale will be more difficult to
secure. The difficulties of the newly married couple in obtaining appropriate
housing are, in my view very great still.
Aeknowledgments.
My best thanks are due to my fellow Council officials in other
Departments, and especially to Dr. O'Dwyer, Mr. Randall and Mr. Blay
in my own Department.
I am,
Your obedient servant,
James Gorman, M B., Ch.B., D.P.H., F.R.S.H.
Medical Officer of Health.
