GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES FOR THE
AREA.
Staffing.
An increase in the establishment of Public Health Inspectors was
filled by the appointment of Mr. B. T. A. Cuthbert.
Mrs. P. Martin, a Clerical Assistant, resigned during the year and
her post was filled by the appointment of Miss L. Patterson. An
additional post created during the year—mainly in connection with
Smoke Control duties—was filled by Mrs. M. Behn.
Mr. P. Cheese—seconded to the Department from the Pool of
Juniors—also resigned during the year.
Mcdical Examinations—Staff.
Staff arrangements remain as last year.
During the year arrangements were made for the examination of
280 (248) employees or prospective employees—85 (68) permanent and
195 (180) temporary. The 1961 figures are given in brackets.
Public Relations.
1 have again to record my appreciation of the co-operation existing
with Mr. Glyn Richards, J.P., our Public Relations Officer.
Talks were given by members of the Department to 7 different local
organisations during the year in some instances being accompanied by
films or slides.
Advantage was taken of an offer by the Hornchurch Carnival
Committee to hold a Public Health exhibition during the period of the
Carnival Fete
Laboratory Facilities.
Under the County Council arrangements certain work hitherto
carried out at the Counties Public Health Laboratories will in future
be dealt with at the Public Health Laboratory, Chelmsford.
Dr. E. A. Atkinson, Oldchurch Hospital, Romford, kindly deals
with a variety of other bacteriological and occasionally pathological
material, whilst the laboratories at both Rush Green and Harold Wood
Hospitals respond willingly to any calls made upon them.
