The "Action Taken" column effectively establishes that each case is
really decided on its merits.
In the case, particularly of food complaints, it is very often exceedingly
difficult to obtain a clear picture of when the offending article was
manufactured, when it arrived at the vendors and when it was finally
sold by the vendor. This information may, on occasion, be completed,
it may be incomplete and it may differ as between the recollection or
record of the manufacturer and the vendor. Your Committee considered
this matter in some detail and was most anxious to secure that any
member of the public buying an article should have some visible indication
of when that article was in fact manufactured. The subject was
pursued with a number of persons and manufacturers and it was finally
decided with regret that no one practicable effort of securing the
objects of the Committee was in fact feasible.
