International Certificates of Vaccination or Inoculation.
493 certificates were stamped during the year. Although cogent
reasons may exist as to why the practice is not followed, it would
superficially seem distinctly advantageous if a supply of blank certificates
was kept at this office as is understood to be the case with Travel Agents,
etc.
Immunisation and Vaccination Statistics.
I am indebted to Dr. W. T. G. Boul, Area Medical Officer, for the
following information concerning immunisation and vaccination statistics
applicable to the Urban District for the year 1959: —
Diphtheria Immunisation:
Completed primary immunisations 1,831
Boost injections 1,147
Whooping Cough hrununisation:
Completed primary immunisations 1,651
Boost injections 136
Combined Diphtheria I Pertussis Immunisation:
Completed primary immunisations 449
Boost injections 61
Poliomyelitis Vaccination:
Completed 2 primary injections 5,738
Boost injections 20,398
Smallpox Vaccination:
Primary vaccinations 1,853
Re-vaccinations 300
Tuberculosis.
Respiratory. The number of new notifications dropped substantially
from 54 to 41.
Non-Respiratory. The notifications increased from three to five.
The site of infection and age of the non-respiratory cases was as under: —
Cervical glands Females 20 and 14
Right kidney Female 25
Renal tract Male 69
Lymph glands Male 31
(groin)
Inward Transfers: These totalled 35 as against 38 last year.
Deaths: There were 5 this year as compared with 9 in 1958.
