Food and Drugs.
No especial problem presented itself during the year and the average
trader's reaction to compliance with the Food Hygiene Regulations was
most co-operative.
Your Department's work in this field is of very substantial public
importance not only in eliciting shortcomings but in discouraging attempts
to mislead the public.
Housing.
Apart from the points noted earlier a significant volume of work
was created by the new Rent Act in connection with applications for
the issue of Certificates of Disrepair.
Our substandard property of a type suitable for demolition is of
negligible proportions.
Acknowledgments.
My best thanks are due to my fellow Council officials in other
Departments, and especially to Dr. O'Dwyer, Mr. Randall and Mr. Blay
in my own Department.
I am.
Your obedient servant,
James Gorman, M B., Ch.B., D.P.H.
Medical Officer of Health.
