Food and Drugs Act, 1955—Food Hygiene Regulations 1955.
Eighty-two notices were served during the year on owners or
occupiers of premises coming within the scope of these Regulations.
Our Inspectors during the year made substantial progress with the
detailed administration of these Regulations and had in so doing full
co-operation from the vast majority of the traders.
The number of notices served during the year, 82, reflects this
co-operation very forcibly as compared with the 280 notices served in
1956 when the administration of the Regulations was in its relative
infancy. Both in public relations work and in approaches to individual
traders full emphasis has been given to the necessity for complying in
spirit and letter with the Regulations.
A meeting was held towards the end of the year with a representative
number of food traders (including employees) and whilst
interest was aroused on the subject the positive attendance was such
that—if this meeting was a true index—one can only be happy to know
that such a percentage of food traders in the district have a standard
of knowledge concerning the Regulations and food hygiene generally
which does not demand any substantial refreshment. I know quite
well that no one time or day can please everybody but equally it can
be said that 'where there is a will there is a way' and the attendance
on this as on previous occasions was discouraging.
