The main headings under which work was done may be noted as
follows:
Housing 3,409 visits
Inspection of Food and Food Premises 3,344
General Sanitation 1,666
Infectious Diseases 1,083
Shops Act Inspections 553
Factories and Outworkers 310
Public Health Inspectors' Work.
The work of the Inspectors covered an increased volume as compared
to the previous year.
I would regard it as misleading to assess the value of an Inspector's
work purely on the number of visits which he is able to arrange on this
or that branch since thorough inspections and detailed investigation into
points arising, for example, under the Food and Drugs Act and The
Clean Air Act are time-consuming in their effects but practically if not
statistically on that account probably rewarding in their results.
I have endeavoured at all times during this year and previously to
secure a co-ordination between the work of the Public Health Inspector
and that of the Local Health visitors who come under the direction of
the Area Medical Officer. In this endeavour—notably perhaps in the
field of the Care of the Aged—I have worked in close harmony with Dr.
Boul, The Area Medical Officer, Miss Knox, his Superintendent Health
Visitor and Miss Thompson his Superintendent of Midwives and Home
Nurses.
