The year's work has been of the customary painstaking conscientious
variety fully comparable in standard and volume with that of
previous years.
The routine work of the district Inspector provides the basis for
the success or failure of the work of a Public Health Department. He
eschews the spectacular but commands the respect of those of us in a
position to see and evaluate the results of his efforts.

The main headings under which work was done may be noted as follows :

Housing3,213 visits
Inspection of Food and Food Premises2,580
General Sanitation1,528 „

SECTION D.
HOUSING
During the year 6 houses were officially represented as being unfit,
7 demolition orders were made, 2 closing orders (under the Local
Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1953, Section 10, subSection
1) and 1 undertaking not to use a structure for human habitation
was accepted and informal agreement to close was obtained in
respect of a further property.
It will thus be seen that apart from our major programme shortly
to commence in respect of unfit dwellings, steady progress has been
made with the routine work of ensuring that unfit habitations receive
adequate attention.
