Food and Drugs Act, 1938 Section 13 and Bye-Laws made
under Section 15 of the Food and Drugs Act.
44 notices were served during the year on owners or occupiers
of premises coming within the scope of these sections of the Food
and Drugs Act, 1038. No statutory action was subsequently required.
Food Complaints.
As in previous years a considerable amount of time has been
spent by my staff in dealing with food complaints brought to our notice
by members of the public.
The following list gives details of the cases deemed worthy of
comment:—
Complaint.
Cockroach in bread.
Doughnut containing piece of wire.
Sausage rolls for sale in a mouldy
condition.
Loaf contained needle.
Spider in bottle of non-brewed
condiment.
Tuft of bovine hair in meat pie
(due to careless trimming of
carcase meat).
Prunes thought to be contaminated
by tar. Case investigated and
eonclusion formed that unusual
taste of prunes was characteristic
taste of prunes from the country
of origin.
Action.
Warning letter sent.
Baker prosecuted—fined £3.
Butcher's Manager prosecuted—
fined £1.
Baker prosecuted—fined £5.
Vendor prosecuted. Case dismissed.
Makers warned and particulars
of case forwarded to Local
Authority responsible for inspection
of factory concerned.
No further action taken.

Unsound Food.

During the year the following foods were voluntarily surrendered to the Sanitary Inspectors as being unfit for human consumption :—
