Non-Notifiable Diseases of Childhood.
Head Teachers return a Form M.I. 13 showing children
excluded from school as suspected contacts or suffering from
suspected infectious disease. This return has proved of considerable
value in ascertaining certain cases which although notifiable had
through inadvertance not come to our notice by more conventional
methods. In addition, this form shows the cases of non-notifiable
infectious disease occurring among school children during the year,
the number reported being as follows:—
Chickenpox 272
Conjunctivitis 43
Gastro-enteritis 1
Glandular Fever 2
Impetigo 4
Influenza 4
Mumps 327
Ringworm 1
Rubella 7
Scabies 1
These numbers must necessarily be accepted with reserve since
they represent our only available, but not necessarily wholly
accurate, information.
