Heat-Treated Milk (Prescribed Tests) Order, 1944.
Reports were received from the County Medical Officer on 23
samples taken during the year from a retailer's premises in this
District where the milk is heat-treated. 4 of these reports were
unsatisfactory.
Milk Sampling.
The 31 routine samples of milk taken from the dairies and in
the streets during the course of delivery to customers throughout
the year were submitted to the laboratory for bacteriological examination
and the results on the whole were very satisfactory.
NOTE— The column heading No. of Colonies is an abreviation for Number or
colonies per millititre of milk growing on Agar at 37°C. in 48 hours."
In certain cases where milk sold as ungraded is thought to have been
either heat-treated or pasteurised it is submitted to the Methylene Blue
and Phosphatase tests.
Note on Phosphatase Test.
Group I—Sufficiently heat-treated.
” II—Insufficiently heat-treated.
,, III—Grossly under-treated or contains an apreciable quantity of raw
milk.
