District.
Midwives.
There are 10 midwives practising in the District who were
appointed by the Essex County Council, and are available to act
in the capacity of midwife, and of maternity nurse under the
supervision of a registered medical practitioner.
In addition there are the District Nurse-Midwives engaged by
the local Nursing . Associations, and independent midwives who
practise in the District.
During the year the Council were again approached by the
Essex County Council on the question of providing housing accommodation
for Midwives, District Nurses and Health Visitors
employed in the area. After full consideration the Council re-housed
three County Council Midwives, one Relief Midwife, and two District
Nurse-Midwives. This preferential housing is indicative of the
Council's desire to co-operate to the full with the County in the
furtherance of essential local services.
